In its almost two mile trip through the gorge from the bottom of the Tallulah Lake Dam to Tugaloo Lake the river flows over five major falls: LEau dOr (46), Tempesta (76), Hurricane (96), Oceana (50) and Bridal Veil (17).The steps down into the gorge are very strenuous. One of the first places I took waterfall pictures after getting my Nickon D100 in Jan 2003.

A very relaxed hike for about a half of a mile on the Angel Falls Trail you will come to the Panther Falls. IMHO it is as good a falls as the Angel Falls, maybe better. You can get right down to the base, the only problem is that there is not that much room to get a good picture without a wide-angle lense.
To reach the falls Follow US441 north out of Tallulah Falls for 2 miles and turn on Old 441 at the Rabun Beach Recreation Area sign. Follow Old 441 for 2.5 miles and turn left on Lake Rabun Road. I went here with everyone at some time. I'm not sure if it was with Tammy or just with the Kids. I may have gone with Chris since we did go on a trip up "north" once. The trail was steeper than I remember (old age) and the foilage hasn't bouncd back very well from the winter. As I was leaving I saw Amanda and Louis from Brickhouse (when Billy was running it).
Amicalola Falls is located in Amicalola State Park on Hwy GA52 near Dawsonville, Elijay and Dahlonega. This beautiful waterfall cascades 600 feet to a reflecting pool at the bottom. A walkway which goes from the bottom to the top of the falls was completed late in 2001. A paved walkway begins near the reflecting pool at the bottom of the falls. The walkway passes along a series of cascades and about one third of the way up becomes a combination of viewing platforms and steps to the top affording spectacular views of this outstanding attraction. Parking is available at the bottom, at the top and near the middle of the falls so it is possible to start the walk from either the middle, top or bottom.

There is an area to park on Warwoman road just before the turn-off to the Warwoman Dell. It saves a little of the more strenuous part of the hike but it detracts. Big Creek Falls

To reach the trail head drive from Clayton on Warwoman Road to Highway 28, a distance of about 14 miles. Turn left onto Highway 28 and go 4 miles to the community of Satolah. A few hundred feet after crossing the Big Creek Bridge turn left into a parking area. The old logging road which serves as the trail begins here. This road immediately crosses Talley Mill Creek which you may want to ford in your vehicle to avoid wading. The road is not good from this point on and I suggest parking as soon as you spot a turnaround. Follow the road for about 1.5 miles to a fork in the trail. The right fork continues on to Three Forks and the left fork is a 90 degree left turn and begins a slow decent to Big Creek. In about one-half mile reach the creek and follow the trail downstream several hundred feet. When you reach the top of the falls the trail becomes difficult. Carefully work your way along the trail to the bottom of the falls.

I drove by this one, stopped and then took pictures of the one you could see from the road. I then proceeded on since the mileage wasn't right. The falls was suppose to be at 4.9 miles but was truly only 3.9 miles. The falls deeper into the woods by about 300 yards was very wide, wider than most falls I've been to in north GA.

I got lost looking foir this particular falls. I parked the car at a campsite and then started to walk out through the site and made my way to the creek. There seemed to be a path running up to the creek and there was a few rocks to jump across. After crossing I lost the path and didn't find the forestry trial I was suppose to follow to the falls. I ended up going back and using the GPS finding the falls by continuing down the road until I fond another campsite and then found the trail and subsequently the falls. I walked back finding the trail I should have found and missed the turn-off to the car but ended up backtracking later and finding it.
To reach Martin Creek Falls take Warwoman Rd. from Clayton for 3.5 miles to Finney Rd. on the left. Follow Finney Rd. (FS 152) for 0.5 miles to campsite on the left. Park Here. Go through the campsite crossing Martin Creek and continue on to join Bartram Trail in approximately 400 yards. Continue up the left side of Martin Creek on the Bartram Trail which will soon cross over the creek and back again on bridges. The second bridge is at the base of the falls and leads to an observation deck. The total distance from the parking area to the falls is approximately 0.5 miles.

The trail was short but I did loose my breath once and had to stop. This was the largest falls I had been to in a while. A lady that looked like Michelle, stood by me for a moment and then left. I wish she had stayed, was setting up the camera and maybe made her feel she would be in the way. Two couples came up after I was done and I took a picture of them all with their camera.
To reach the falls Follow US441 north out of Tallulah Falls for 2 miles and turn on Old 441 at the Rabun Beach Recreation Area sign. Follow Old 441 for 2.5 miles and turn left on Lake Rabun Road. Go about 150 Yards and turn left on Bear Gap Rd. Follow Bear Gap Rd. for 1.5 miles to the Minnehaha Falls sign on the right. There is limited parking on the left side of the road. Singleys Falls on Overflow Creek

To reach the trailhead drive from Clayton on Warwoman Road to Highway 28, a distance of about 14 miles. Turn left onto Highway 28 and go 4 miles to the community of Satolah. About a 100 yards after crossing the Big Creek Bridge turn left into a rough parking area. The old logging road that serves as the trail begins here. This road immediately crosses Talley Mill Creek which you may want to ford in your vehicle to avoid wading or rock hopping. The road is not good from this point on and if you choose to ford the creek in your vehicle I suggest parking as soon as you spot a turnaround. Follow the logging road for about 1.5 miles where the trail to Big Creek Falls turns 90 degree left and begins a slow decent to Big Creek. Continue straight for about another mile to a large blocking mound with a water-filled pit in front. A trail straight ahead descends to Three Forks. Turn right at the water filled pit and begin to descend sometimes steeply for about 1/2 mile to where the logging road turns sharply right. At this point the trail to Singley's Falls goes left for about a quarter of a mile to the top of the falls. The walking distances are estimates but you should allow about 2 hours to walk in and the same for the return trip.

This was the first falls I visitied on 2/12/05. The drive was very short out of Clayton and the walk was mostly down-hill. There was a campsite at the base of the falls and you could have driven a truck up to it if you felt comfortable driving over some small creeks that crossed the road. Met a friendly guy named Woody who was just walking a trail leading off just before the falls.

Though it goes by more names than an escaped convict, once you see Twin Falls in person, you won’t mistake it with any other waterfall. The left and larger of the falls pitches from a height of 75-feet over a massive slab of granite, while the right side manages a short drop onto another chunk of stone and then slides down a 45-degree slope before rejoining its brother. All in all, a fine show and only an easy 15-minute walk.
From Pickens, drive north on US 178 for approximately 12 miles and turn left (southwest) onto Cleo Chapman Road (Pickens County S-39-100) at Bob’s Place Tavern. Drive 2 miles to a “T” intersection, then turn right (north) onto Eastatoe Community Road (Pickens County S-39-92).
Drive 1 mile and turn right (east) onto Waterfalls Road, which turns to gravel. Continue on this road until it ends at a parking area. Walk down the old roadbed that starts at the end of the parking area. It is approximately 0.25 mile to the waterfall.

Cleveland, SC
Greenville County
The hike up to Falls Creek Falls involves some steep climbing up an old logging road through a boulder-choked ravine. Although, after this strenuous, hour-long uphill journey, you will be treated to two major views of an oft-overlooked 100-foot waterfall – certainly among the finest in Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. The first is looking up at the falls, which requires walking carefully over some slippery rocks and using the guide cable. The second view is on the eastern side, next to the upper levels of the falls. You will need to turn right (north) on a short spur that parallels the stream. Please stay on the path, as there are some rare and sensitive plants in this area.
1. From Greenville, drive north on US 276 to Cleveland and the junction with SC 11.
2. Continue on US 276 for 1.4 miles and turn right onto River Falls Road (Greenville County S-23-97). (An F-Mart convenience store is at this intersection.)
3. Drive 4 miles and turn right onto Duckworth Road. (Look for the Palmetto Bible Camp sign.)
4. Drive 0.5 mile and turn right onto Falls Creek Road. (Here will be a second Palmetto Bible Camp sign.)
5. Drive 0.4 mile (into the Palmetto Bible Camp) and cross a small bridge (small waterfall on your left) and park on the left (north). Be sure to register before starting out on the Falls Creek Trail (orange blazes).
6. You will cross several creeks, including (at 0.7 mile) Little Falls Creek and at approximately 1.4 miles you will be at Falls Creek Falls.

The moderately difficult hike to the falls begins near the Park Headquarters at Jones Gap State Park. After you fill out the hiker registration form, you will hike a section of the Jones Gap Trail, which follows the boulder-strewn Middle Saluda River, and crosses several bridges. After approximately one mile you will turn right on a short spur trail to the falls. Although not as spectacular as some of the other falls in the area, Jones Gap has a character of its own as it descends 50 feet over a staircase of stone. The falls provides a great haunt for salamanders, but you will probably spend more time bird watching.
1. From Greenville, drive north on US 276 to the junction with SC 11 at Cleveland.
2. Continue on US 276 for 1.4 miles and turn right onto River Falls Road (Greenville County S-23-97). (An F-Mart convenience store is at this intersection.)
3. Drive 4 miles to the main gate of Jones Gap State Park, and turn right into the designated parking area.
4. Walk on the footpath from the parking lot and cross the footbridge over the Middle Saluda. Continue on an asphalt path past the picnic area and the Park Headquarters.
5. Turn left onto the service road and cross a bridge. To the right just past the bridge is the bulletin board that marks the beginning of Jones Gap Trail. Fill out a registration form before you start your hike.
6. At approximately 1 mile you will cross the Middle Saluda River on the John Reid Clonts Memorial Bridge and the trail will bear left.
7. Cross on the stepping stones of the tributary just past Campsite 11 and immediately turn right onto the short spur trail to the falls.

Blood Mountain Creek Falls
Lumpkin County
Since I didn't want to ford the creek I had to hike the extra 1 mile up the FS34 and then do the uphill hike of about 100 yards after that. The trailhead was just after the "bridge" and was quite washed out. I didn't get a good shot of the lower falls since I didn't want to jump from rock to rock possibly getting wet. There seemed to be a trail on the other side that may have given a better vantage point but I'll check on that at a later time. The hike back was mostly downhill and easy.
Blood Mountain Creek which flows into Dicks Creek in Lumpkin County is 18 miles from Dahlonega. There are three falls on Blood Mtn. Creek - the first two are connected by cascading rapids in a deep cove a short distance from the road. To reach these two falls from Dahlonega go north 13.7 miles on US 19 to the paved Mt. Piscah Church Rd. (one half mile before reaching the junction of US19 and US129 at Turner's Corner.) This road is marked by a US Forest Service sign indicating Waters Creek Campground. Turn left on this road and after 2.6 miles pass Dicks Creek falls which will be on the left. Continue on FS34 approximately 0.7 miles to the ford across Crow Mountain Creek. Continue for another mile to Blood Mountain Creek which passes under the road from the right. Park here for the lower and middle falls. The difficult un-maintained but well used trail goes up the left side of the creek and reaches the lower falls about 100 yards from FS34 and the middle falls in another 50 yards upstream. The Lower and Middle Falls together with the intermediate connecting cascade have about a 50 ft. drop.

Continue on foot for about 0.4 miles down to an open field and follow Blood Mtn. Creek upstream on a well defined trail reaching the field of large boulders in about 0.7 miles. The trail reaches the rapids approximately one-half mile downstream and continues making a 3.5 mile loop back to the trailhead. The first 20 yards as the trail drops down to the river's edge with steps of uneven rocks. Beyond that the trail to the falls is fairly flat as shown below.

Little Ridge Creek Falls

Little Ridge Creek Falls
Lumpkin County
Three falls on Little Ridge Creek are at the upper end of Boggs Creek Campground in the Chattahoochee National Forest. To reach the falls from Dahlonega take US19N 15 miles to Turners Corner at the junction of US19 with US129. Continue north on US19/129 for 1.5 miles to the entrance to Boggs Creek Recreational Area and turn right at the Boggs Creek sign. Follow the road through the campground for approximately 1.8 miles and park where Little Ridge Creek (the left fork) and Cow Rock Creek join to become Boggs Creek at the ford. This is a parking fee area. The trail begins here and the total trail distance to the last falls on Little Ridge Creek is about .6 miles with an elevation change of about 300 ft.
From the parking area after crossing a blocking mound walk up the left side of Little Ridge Creek for about 400 yards. After crossing a small creek coming in from the left continue for about another 100 yards (the trail will begin to ascend Little Ridge and then end) and cross Little Ridge Creek and climb about 100 feet to an old logging road. From this point on the trail follows the creek but at a 30 to 40 ft. higher elevation so the creek is not always visible. The creek has almost continuous cascades and water slides as it descends the mountainside. Climb up the right side of the creek on the old logging road and reach the first of three falls in about 200 yards. Reach the second falls in another 200 yards. The top of the second falls has a flat shelf and from there to the third falls is relatively flat and is only a short distance. The third falls provides an interesting view as it makes it way through a narrow opening in large boulders.

Martha Falls on Pigeon Roost Creek
Lumpkin County
Martha falls on Pigeon Roost Creek is accessed on an enjoyable trail through a rhododendron, hemlock and hardwood forest almost to the falls (approximately 1.5 miles) but the final approach is difficult to get a good view of the falls. The first mile of the trail has been relocated in the past several years and now begins as the Dockery Lake trail around the left side of the lake. At the dam follow the left fork of the trail and descend into the Waters Creek Valley with good mountain and valley views. After passing the turnoff to Waters Creek on the right and several small tributaries the trail begins to ascend along the left side of Pigeon Creek into the Blood Mountain Wilderness Area on an old road-bed bounded by moss-covered rocks. The trail soon veers away from pigeon creek. Soon after the trail crosses a small tributary one needs to leave the trail and walk through the woods to again be alongside Pigeon Creek . The falls which is 30-40 feet high may be difficult to see initially because of the thick growth but during periods of high water can be easily heard making it easier to find.

2009-03-07 Took trip to falls, couldn't find them, stopped at the end of a road, it was late and I decided not to head down the "road" more to see if I could find it.
A moderately difficult, 30-minute hike will deposit you into a pristine wilderness setting where you won’t mind exchanging a dramatic drop for the slanting lurch that more aptly fits the term cascade than waterfall. This hidden treasure rushes 75 feet down a narrow gap and into a beautiful blue pool that gives the area its name.A moderately difficult, 30-minute hike will deposit you into a pristine wilderness setting where you won’t mind exchanging a dramatic drop for the slanting lurch that more aptly fits the term cascade than waterfall. 7. Hike 0.2 mile to a short steep path that leads down to the creek (100 feet before the road ends).
8. Cross the creek and follow the faint path downstream to the waterfall.
9. This poorly defined path becomes more evident as it skirts the right side of the pool at the base of the waterfall. Be careful: the sides of the pool are steep, and the path is very narrow.

Coming from Highlands, take Hwy 64 west for just over 3 miles from it's intersection with Hwy 106. Cullasaja Falls is a beautiful falls located along a very dangerous stretch of Hwy 64. Hwy 64 west into Highlands. At the main stop light in town, 64 turns right, Hwy 28 goes straight, you turn left on Main Street. After it leaves town in a couple of blocks, it's called Horse Cove Rd. Take this curvy road down hill for about 4 miles and turn right on Walking Stick Rd (SR1608). At 0.6 miles down this road on the right is Walking Stick Falls. It's right next to the road, but on private property being developed with signs saying 'no poor people allowed', so we slowed down and looked, but didn't stop. Not a good photo op anyway. Parking for the trail to Secret Falls is 2.9 miles down Walking Stick, right where FR4567 turns right. This is Gamelands and that road is open during hunting season, but park before the gate. The trail is to the left of the gate and heads slightly down hill. Not to far down the trail were the 'land for sale' and 'no trespassing signs' to the left and Gamelands signs to the right. Seven minutes down the trail, we crossed a creek - your time may vary. Two minutes later we crossed another another creek on a fallen log, headed up hill, and in 3 more minutes took a trail to the left and down hill towards the top of the falls. So you've got about a 15 minute easy hike and by now you should have penciled this 50' falls in as a 'must see'.
Soco Falls
http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/soco1.htm
Cherokee, NC
From Maggie Valley, head up Hwy 19 south to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Cross under the Parkway and continue downhill on Hwy 19 towards Cherokee. From the Parkway, it's 1.5 miles to an unmarked pullout on the left side of the road. There's a small blue sign indicating Soco Falls .5 miles ahead, but my odometer measured it at .3 miles from that sign. There's no sign at the pullout, but you can hear the waterfalls from the parking area and there's a break in the guard rail. I don't have an exact mileage from Cherokee, but the map indicates it's about 10 miles and I think there is one of those blue signs coming from that direction also.
The trail begins at the break in the guard rail. Don't take the smaller steep trail heading straight down, but take the trail along the guard rail away from the falls for a short distance, then cut back down towards the viewing deck. It's less than 5 minutes from the parking area and is kid friendly. The viewing deck is well built and a good size and it looks like a few trees have been cleared to improve the view. The picture below is the view you will have from the deck. The taller falls which the map indicates is Soco Falls can be clearly seen, but there's not a very good view of the smaller falls on the left.
Mingo Falls
Cherokee, NC
Follow Big Cove Rd for 4.5 - 5 miles, passing the KOA Campground on the right. Start looking for a small sign saying 'Mingo Falls Next Right" and take that road - Mingo Falls Bridge Rd - over the bridge to the parking area at the trail head.

Westminister, SC
Oconee County South Carolina
Description: This stubby, 12-foot high waterfall on the Chauga River is among the shortest listed here. In fact, on some rivers, this broad, 100-foot-wide cascade would probably pose just a brief obstacle to whitewater paddlers. http://www.sctrails.net/trails/ALLTRAILS/waterfalls/HiddenFalls.html
Walhalla, SC
Oconee County South Carolina
Description: After a hike of approximately 1 mile on the Foothills Trail you will see a clearly marked sign directing you to Hidden Falls. Yellow blazes on the northern red and chestnut oak trees along the trail provide direction, as you wind along the hammered out hillsides of the Blue Ridge. As you walk, you will be entertained by the rippling sounds of Tamassee Creek behind the dense underbrush that camouflages its existence. During extreme dry conditions the falls may not be more than a 50-foot trickle dropping over a series of rock ledges, but several rock benches provide a place to sit and enjoy the galax, rhododendron, and ferns while you dangle your feet in the creek.

After a moderate 30-minute hike you will reach a spot where you can relax all day long on a tree trunk and enjoy the spray from the falls. Perhaps it is the backward slant of the rocks, but in any case the drop appears to be much higher than 70 feet.

That’s why it is no stretch to lump this 100-foot cascade among the most popular in Oconee County, and among the most beautiful.
Also in the park is the Stumphouse Tunnel, which is 25 feet high, 17 feet wide, and although it was not completed, extends 1,617 feet into the mountain. You can walk to the end of the tunnel, but be aware there may be water and you will need a flashlight to find your way.

You will find the 25-foot stack of Pigpen Falls and the two-tiered, 80-foot Licklog Falls are much prettier than their names imply. http://www.sctrails.net/trails/ALLTRAILS/waterfalls/Yellowbranch.html
Walhalla, SC
Oconee County South Carolina
Description: This moderately difficult out-and-back trail leads you to the base of a spectacular 50-foot vertical cascade. Starting from the parking area, you will hike approximately .2 mile on the Yellow Branch Nature Trail, before you come to the junction with the Yellow Branch Falls Trail. You will pass through groves of dignified hardwoods and cross meandering creek bottoms before turning to circumnavigate the steep terrain. In the winter when the trees are bare, you can see the Walhalla vicinity as you hike. Wear sturdy shoes and use extra caution during wet conditions as this trail skirts the edges of deep ravines.
